Zigzag card photo tutorial

I decided to write a quick photo tutorial on my zigzag card from yesterday.  When I went to make it, I couldn't find a tutorial or dimensions anywhere, so I had to just wing it.  Here's how I did it:

I made a card that was 5.5 by 5.5.  This allowed for one inch to adhere my back panel to.  If you would like a different size, you would need to adjust accordingly.

For the base of my zigzag card, you will need one 12x12 sheet of paper.  Cut one piece 12 x 5.5 inches, and another piece 5.5 x 5.5 inches

(Forgot to label this one, it's 5.5x5.5)

Take the 12x5.5 piece and score at the 5.5 and 11 inch marks.  The one inch flap will be what you tape the 5.5 piece to, at the end!  To fold, with the one inch score to your right, the one inch section will fold up, and the left hand 5.5x5.5 panel will fold under.

Now for the angle cut, this was the trickiest part.  I tried a straight cut and didn't care for it, it didn't suit the design I wanted.  For my card, I wanted to see a bit more of the layer with my girl on the fence (see below, or yesterday's post).  For this card, the smallest end is 3/4 of an inch high.  The mid point, where the card will bend the first time (at the 5.5 inch mark) on my card is 2.5 inches high.  You will need to cut from the top corner where the 11 inch score mark connects to the top of the piece down to the 2.5 inch mark.  I find this easiest if you fold over the front layer behind, it will be smaller so it doesn't matter if you cut it too.

The second cut takes you from the 2.5 edge down to your 3/4 inch point.  Be careful at this point not to cut past the score!!

Now it will look like this:

Next, put tape onto your one inch flap and adhere your 5.5 inch square piece onto the front of it.  Now it will look like it should!

And away you go!

My finished product from yesterday's post:

I hope someone finds this helpful!  :)

Have a great weekend,

A labor of love...

Sorry for the photo intensive post, but this card needed it!  My first attempt at a zig zag card, and it was so much fun!

For my card today I used some SUPER cute CC Designs stamps, Swiss Pixies Ladybug Nora, Field Fence, watering can, sentiment, and the Birthday sentiment I printed on my computer to match, then cropped the flower out of an extra of the first sentiment and glued it on.

I have used a total hodgepodge of papers on this card!  The sky paper is by Echo Park paper, the pink circles is Three Bugs in a Rug, and the green circle paper is from My Little Shoebox.

The Watering can is tucked on the inside:

All of the images were colored in copics, with the blue shading done in chalks.  Here's a closeup of Ladybug Nora perched on her fence:

and one last shot, of my card tightly closed:

I have to say that a fair bit of work went into this card... what was I thinking, cutting out the fence and Nora?  The ladybug antenna were really fun to cut out!  :p  Then when I put my colored watering can image through my bigshot, it came out with ink all over it!  I must have cut something that wasn't totally dry.  I almost left it out at that point, but after all of that work, I decided to restamp and recolor, and now it's finally complete!  Phew!

Don't forget that Jenny has all of her in-stock stamps on sale right now 15% off!  Check it out at Paper Jewels!

Elise by Sugar Nellie

Wow, I'm on a roll this week, this is my 5th card in 4 days!  I have so many more on the go, with the image colored just waiting for me to make it into a card.  Anyone else do that?

All week I have been meaning to complete my card for the current Sugar Bowl challenge, and finished it just in the nick of time!  90 minutes until it closes, yikes!  It wouldn't have taken so long if the batteries hadn't died in the Sew Mini I was using.  I couldn't find any other batteries in the house, so I had to turn the little knob by hand to sew the entire card!  There went an hour of my life!  :p  If only it hadn't died half way through the first side... if it had simply been dead in the first place, I just wouldn't have stitched it!

So much jibber gabber, how about my card?

I hope you're having a great day!

If you want a chance to win a gift certificate for Simon Says Stamp, don't forget to enter the current challenge at Paper Sundaes, there aren't very many entrants right now, so your odds are good!

I'm Kickin' it for Michelle too

While caring for her cute donkeys last month, a lovely fellow blogger Michelle had an accident.  In support of her, A Spoon Full of Sugar has a card drive on for her right now, to help cheer her up!

I started this card for Michelle last week before our vacation, and finally finished it tonight!

I combined an image that Karen from Karen's Doodles created for Michelle (you can find it here) with one of the sentiments that Melissa Jenkins created for Michelle here, which is on the inside of my card. (Which I forgot to photograph!)

If you have been to Michelle's blog then you know how much she loves her donkeys, and what a nice lady she is!  Hopefully all of our cards will bring her some joy :)

Summer is flying by!

How scary, it's already the last week of June!  Today brings about the start of Paper Sundaes challenge #28, Back to School!  Isn't it scary that it's almost that time again?

After being away all week, I wasn't sure I would get a card done for today, but I couldn't resist playing with this cute girl from The Greeting Farm, Anya Teacher!

The papers are from my stash, that's what happens when you decide to make a card at 1 AM.  In the top left I used some gems by Hero Arts.  She is stamped in Memento Ink on PTI cardstock, and colored with Copics.

The layout is from the current challenge at Friday Sketchers.  The current challenge at Totally Papercrafts is 'Going Fruity'.  Also, at Creative Inspirations challenge blog, their current challenge is Anything Goes, so I should enter it as well :)

Now to get to bed, tomorrow will be a long day of laundry after almost a week away!

Thanks for stopping by!

Handmade flowers and DT call

This week at Paper Sundaes, the challenge is to create your own flowers.  I admit it, I set this challenge, so if you hate it, you can blame me!  Sometimes I like to challenge myself to step outside my 'box', and do something I normally don't do.

Our wonderful sponsor this week is Lili of the Valley!  I just love their stamps, they are so cute!  Luckily I have several in my stash of rubber, and had the tough choice of picking one to play with today.

Finally I decided on Little Girls: Swing Time, since it reminds me so much of my little girl and her puppy!  (No matter how old she gets, she will always be a puppy to me!)  This afternoon my daughter sat and read pokemon stats to our poor dog for quite some time... she got quite insulted when the dog closed her eyes at one point!  :D  I think maybe she's finding summer break a bit boring!

Here is a close-up of my handmade flower:

I have listed a few different flower tutorials over at Paper Sundaes, if you need some inspiration!

On a side note, Paper Sundaes is saying goodbye to two Paper Sundaes Girls this week, Carla and Jenny!  Carla and Jenny will both be really missed, they were amazing DT members!  As a result, we currently have a DT call on right now that ends in about 4 days.  If you'd like to come create with us and make new friends, check out our DT call!

I am entering this card into a few challenges:

Wild Orchid challenge:  Flowers
Creatalicious Challenges:  3D

Blooming and Growing Take Two

This second card features a cutie from the Rock the Farm set by The Greeting Farm.  Again, I used the October Afternoon 'Go Fly a Kite' papers, I just love the bright fun colours.

I cut the strawberry from the DP and double glazed it with Crystal Effects.

Today I have 2 cards on the go, both using one of my favorite papers... October Afternoon's 'Go Fly a Kite' line!

The card for this post uses a freebie from Pollycraft called Flo!  Isn't she adorable??  If only the rain would stop long enough so I can get out into our garden...  it's pure mud right now!  (Except where the weeds are taking over) :p

Summer Sale at Paper Jewels!!

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that Jenny has a sale on right now at Paper Jewels... 15% off all stamps!  This is a limited time sale, so don't delay!  Jenny carries Spesch, CC Designs, Sweet Pea and Bildmalarna.  Jenny also carries both EZ Mount and Memento Ink, both of which can be very hard to find where I am, in Canada!

On a related but side note, I was having trouble with little fibers on my clear stamps, so frustrating to waste so much good paper!  A friend suggested that it was coming off my old Memento ink pad, and sure enough, switching to a new one totally solved the problem.

I'll be back in a few with a card or two!

A walk in the sun

Good morning!  I hope you are having a great weekend!  The weather is beautiful here, and it inspired my Paper Sundaes card for today.  The challenge this week is 'lots of layers', just up my alley :D

For my card I used a grand total of 10 layers.  Not a record by any means, but I'm pretty sure that it qualifies as lots! :)

For my card today, I used the lovely 'Demure' by Sugar Nellie, our wonderful sponsor this week!  You can find Sugar Nellie stamps for sale at Funky Kits.  Here is a close-up of her:

The color shows up far better on the closeup, doesn't it?  It seems like when I shoot from an angle, from the side, I don't block the lighting as much.

'Demure' is colored with Distress Inks.  The papers are from Basic Grey.  Flowers are from my Wild Orchid stash.

The layout is from the current Sugar Bowl Challenge.

I am also entering this into the following challenge:
A Pocket Full of Posies:  One for the Girls

White plus one!

Good Morning!

This week at Paper Sundaes, Shana has issued us a challenge to create a card using just 2 colors- white plus one!  You may include touches of other colors as necessary, but it should be predominantly white plus the  one color of your choice.

Fred She Said is our sponsor this week, and they kindly supplied the DT with an image to play with.  For my card, I decided to work with Emma in Strawberry Patch.  She just seems so perfect for this time of year.

I am entering this into the following challenges:
current sketch challenge at Sketch Saturday
two ribbons challenge at Crazy 4 Challenges
one for the girls at Totally Papercrafts
colours of your flag (Canada) at Stamp Something
Favorite Things (ribbon) at Pile It On

Thanks for stopping by, have a great Sunday!
